Louisiana Orthopedic Surgery Center Logo

At Louisiana Orthopedic Surgery Center, we specialize in outpatient hand and wrist surgery for conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome, fractures, tendon injuries, and arthritis. Our minimally invasive techniques are designed for faster recovery and reduced downtime, helping you return to your daily activities with improved strength, motion, and function.

Distal Radius ORIF

A fracture of the distal radius occurs when the radius — one of the two long bones in the forearm — breaks close to the wrist. Distal radius fractures are very common. In fact, the radius is the most commonly broken bone in the arm. Surgery typically involves making an incision on the wrist over the fracture to access the broken bone(s). Important structures such as arteries, nerves, and tendons are identified and protected.

Nerve Repair

Nerves are fragile and can be damaged by pressure, stretching, or cutting. Injury to a nerve can stop signals to and from the brain. This can cause muscles to stop working properly and result in loss of feeling. Surgery may be needed for nerve injuries when the outer layer (epineurium) is severely damaged or disrupted, or when the inner layers are too damaged to recover on their own.

Dupuytrem's Contracture

Dupuytren’s disease is a condition that affects the palmar fascia — the fibrous layer of tissue that lies underneath the skin and above the tendons, nerves, blood vessels, and bones in the palm and fingers. There is no known cure for Dupuytren’s contracture; however, surgery is intended to “set back the clock” by reducing the restricting (limiting) effect of the cords by either disrupting or removing them.

Trapeziectomy

A broken thumb can be a serious problem. Loss of thumb function due to a fracture can affect your ability to grasp items, and certain types of thumb fractures can increase the risk of arthritis later in life. A trapeziectomy is a surgical procedure where the trapezium bone at the base of the thumb is removed to treat thumb base arthritis. It’s commonly used when other treatments like physical therapy and medications haven’t been effective.

Joint Replacement

Thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) arthroplasty is a surgery for patients with thumb CMC joint arthritis who continue to have symptoms despite nonsurgical treatment. There are a variety of thumb CMC arthroplasty procedures. What they all have in common is removal of the trapezium bone. Once the trapezium is removed, there is no longer an arthritic joint between it and the thumb metacarpal.

Carpal Tunnel Release

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a progressively painful hand and arm condition caused by a pinched nerve in the wrist. It occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the palm of the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed. Carpal tunnel release surgery involves releasing the band of tissue around the wrist to reduce pressure on the median nerve.

Ganglion Cyst Removal

Ganglion cysts are fluid-filled lumps that can quickly appear, disappear, or change size. Many require no treatment, but options are available if they cause pain, affect function, or are bothersome. Surgery may be recommended if nonsurgical methods fail or the cyst returns after aspiration. Surgical removal includes excising the cyst and its stalk, sometimes involving part of the joint capsule or tendon sheath. Even after surgery, there is a small chance the cyst may return.

Trigger Finger Release

Trigger finger is a condition affecting tendons that flex the fingers and thumb, typically resulting in a sensation of locking or catching when you bend and straighten your digits. Trigger Finger Release Surgery’s goal is to release the A1 pulley, which is the pulley responsible for blocking tendon movement. After release, the flexor tendon can glide more easily through the tendon sheath, making the clicking/catching sensation go away.
