ABOUT OUR SURGERY CENTER

What is an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)?

An ASC is a state-licensed, accredited healthcare facility specializing in same-day surgical procedures. Patients receive high-quality surgical care and are discharged to recover at home, avoiding an overnight hospital stay.

What procedures do you perform?

We offer arthroscopic surgery, fracture care, ligament repairs, joint procedures, pain management and more.

How is an ASC different from a hospital?

ASCs specialize in outpatient procedures, have lower infection rates, shorter stays, and offer cost savings.

BEFORE SURGERY

How will I prepare for surgery?

You will receive specific preoperative instructions on how to prepare, including:

    • When to stop eating and drinking (NPO after midnight, unless directed otherwise)
    • How to manage your daily medications (some may need to be adjusted or paused). You will need to bring your medications with you for review.
    • Showering with special antibacterial soap the night before and morning of surgery
    • Removing all jewelry, piercings and valuables prior to arrival
    • Removing all nail polish, artificial nails, and makeup prior to arrival
    • Leaving contact lenses at home; wear glasses if needed.
    • Wearing loose, comfortable clothing
    • Arranging for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours. No Uber, ride-share or taxi services are permitted.

When should I stop eating or drinking (NPO guidelines)?

Typically, no food or drink (including water, gum and candy) for 8 hours prior to your surgery. Special exceptions may be made for medications with a small sip of water – this will be communicated individually.

Should I adjust my medications?

Your surgeon and/or anesthesia team will review your medications. Some medications, especially blood thinners, may need to be paused. We will provide specific guidance. Please bring your medications with you for review.

What should I bring?

Bring a photo ID, insurance card, medications, comfortable clothing, and a responsible adult escort. Please remove all jewelry, piercings and valuables prior to your arrival.

What if I feel sick before surgery?

Notify our office immediately if you develop any illness symptoms prior to your procedure. Please call (225) 765-3111.

DAY OF SURGERY

What happens when I arrive?

You will check in, meet your care team, review your surgical plan, and receive anesthesia preparation.

What type of anesthesia will I have?

You may receive general anesthesia, regional blocks, or monitored sedation — determined by your procedure and health status.

How long will I be at the surgery center?

Most patients are onsite for 2 to 4 hours total.

Can I drive home?

No — you must have someone drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours.

AFTER SURGERY

What can I expect after surgery?

You will recover onsite with monitoring until it is safe for you to be discharged.

How will my pain be controlled?

A combination of oral pain medications, icing, and support devices may be used.

What if I have issues at home?

You’ll receive a contact number for urgent questions. Severe symptoms require emergency evaluation.

Will I need physical therapy?

Many procedures require rehabilitation. We will assist with therapy planning as needed.

When will I see my surgeon again?

Follow-up is typically 7–14 days after surgery.

INSURANCE AND BILLING

Do you take my insurance?
