A broken ankle, or ankle fracture, means one or more bones in the ankle joint are broken. It can range from a simple break that allows walking to multiple fractures requiring surgery. Ankle ORIF (Open Reduction and Internal Fixation) is surgery to treat unstable or complex ankle fractures. It realigns the broken bones and secures them with hardware like screws, plates, or rods. ORIF is often needed for displaced or multi-piece fractures.
Hammer toe is a deformity where the toe bends downward at the middle joint, often affecting the second, third, or fourth toes. It can cause pain, swelling, and difficulty wearing shoes. Surgery to correct hammer toe typically involves straightening the toe by releasing or lengthening tendons, removing part of the bone, or fusing the joint, depending on the severity of the deformity.
Midfoot fusion is a surgical procedure that joins two or more bones in the middle of the foot to create one solid bone. It is typically done to treat severe arthritis, deformities, or injuries that cause pain and instability. Fusing the bones helps reduce pain and improve foot function, but it does limit some movement in the midfoot.
A bunionectomy is a surgical procedure that corrects bunions, also known as hallux valgus, where the big toe angles towards the other toes, forming a bump at the base of the big toe. The surgery aims to realign the bones and soft tissues around the big toe joint to relieve pain, restore proper toe positioning, and improve foot function.
Metatarsal ORIF (Open Reduction and Internal Fixation) is a surgical procedure used to treat serious fractures of the metatarsal bones in the foot. It involves making an incision to realign the broken bone (open reduction) and securing it with hardware like plates, screws, or pins (internal fixation) to help the bone heal properly.
Ankle ligament reconstruction is a surgical procedure to repair or replace damaged ligaments in the ankle, usually after repeated sprains or chronic instability. The goal is to restore strength, stability, and function by tightening existing ligaments or using a graft to rebuild them.
